Prometheus was a Titan who sided with the Olympians in the Titanomachy, he was considered very wise, some say even wiser than the gods. His name means forethought, while his brother’s name, Epimetheus, means afterthought. Epimetheus was a scattered brain fool who never thought things through and just went with his fist impulse on most things. When giving out gifts to the creatures of the world, Epimetheus gave out abilities and traits to all the animals, and left none for humans. He gave turtles their shells and birds their wings, dogs had teeth and cats had claws, when he had nothing left to give humans, he turned to his brother Prometheus for help. Prometheus took another approach and decided to make humans more like the gods, he made them stand up straight and he went and took a flame from Olympus to give fire to humankind, to help warm themselves and protect themselves from predators.
