Human Heroes

The Human Heroes in Greek Mythology are numerous and all quite different in their strengths and weaknesses. A lot of the humans who come out as the heroes in these stories have a god as one of their parents and so they themselves are Demi-Gods. Some claim gods in their ancestry but some are just plain old humans who are awesome and stand out because they are stronger, smarter, braver, wiser, luckier, or sometimes they are all of these things. The humans are sometimes pestered by the gods to complete challenges, the most famous being Heracles’ twelve labors. Sometimes it is for a punishment from the gods but sometimes it is a quest of their own for greatness, wealth or love, while other times again it is just that they were in the right place at the right time and were lucky enough to come out alive and well, sometimes alive but not so well. Humans in this category can be found in the Iliad and the Odyssey by Homer as well as the greek plays by Aeschylus, Sophocles and Euripedes just to name a few and many other texts by writers throughout the Ancient World.
