Olympian Gods

The Olympian Gods are the highest power in Greek Mythology. They sit up on Mount Olympus and rule over everything and everyone. The original six gods were Zeus, Hera, Poseidon, Hades, Demeter and Hestia. They were the children of Cronos and Rhea, the main two Titans. When they were born, Cronos was afraid that one of them would defeat him, as he was warned and as he did to his father, and so he ate them. By they time the youngest was born, Zeus, Rhea was fed up with Cronos’ behavior and went to Gaia for help. She told her to give him a rock clothed in swaddling clothes and feed that to him, then take Zeus to the island of Crete for protection. Zeus grew up on Crete and when he was old enough, he forced Cronos to vomit up his brothers and sisters and release his aunts and uncles. The Cyclopes were grateful enough to make Zeus what we now know as his signature lightening and thunderbolts. After defeating Cronos, Zeus teamed up with his brothers Poseidon and Hades and they took over the rest of Cronos’ reign. Deciding by drawing straws who would get to rule which realm; Zeus ended up with the sky and the Heavens, Poseidon drew the Land and the Sea, while Hades ended up with ruling over the Underworld and the realm of the dead. These three were joined by their sisters Hera, Demeter and Hestia to be the supreme powers. The other gods to become Olympian gods were, Aphrodite, Ares, Athena, Apollo, Artemis, Hephaistus, Dionysus and Hermes. I know there are only twelve Olympian Gods but some were switched out or considered and not considered Olympian depending on the source. I am going to include all the Gods that were considered Olympian Gods at some point in time.
